Tap Water..... Yuck

Let's just face it, Tap Water kinda sucks. Like me, you're probably used to having you're water filtered. In a dorm you probably don't have that luxury & as you already know its essential to keep hydrated especially when you're stressed & not getting good sleep (aka all of college). But do not fear! There are ways to avoid Tap Water that won't require lot of money or space!

  1. Get a Britta (or Knock- off Brand) Pitcher - This is probably the easiest solution, they aren't that expensive and they make tap water taste like it's from a bottle. Get here!
  2. Bring a Pitcher & Fill it up from the water fountain
  3. Get water flavorers - Whether its Crystal Light or the store brand, they make some awesome flavors that make you're water taste amazing. This is also a great space saver and healthy alternative to have soda or juice in you dorm room! I'm currently obsessed with Mio Cherry Blackberry Water Enhancer
  4. Fill up your water bottle in the dinning halls - Some schools have rules about this (break them anyway) but try to fill up your water bottle with water every time you eat in the dinning hall so that during class or in you're room you'll have water!

Etsy Find

Etsy provides so many ways to buy cute dorm decor or inspiration for your own dorm decor DIY. The most recent Etsy find that I'm gushing over is this jewelry holder by TheHopeStack. It's so cute and can be personalized to match your dorm colors. I've recently been struggling to find a way to store all my jewelry and I love that this can hold it all!

It is $59.50 & can be bought here!

4 Easy Dorm Organization Steps

Let's face the facts: Dorms are small. Most girls are cramming a lot into a small space. It won't be that  difficult to fit it all in there but it can be hard keeping it all organized. Here are a few easy ways to stay organized.

1. Get a Bedside Cady - You may think they're pointless but they actually can hold a lot depending on which one you get. They're awesome to replace a bedside table if you don't have the space to have one. This one is from Amazon & you can get it here. But I got mine from Kohls for $9.99 (& it was chevron!)

2. Use your Closet - Some dorms have like no closet space which is awful and I'll try to write another post about that. But most dorms have about a 3 foot closet which is a good amount of space. Take advantage of your closet space by using it to also store jewelry and accessories. I use a variation of both of these products and I love them. The hanging jewelry organizer is perfect for my earrings, rings, and bracelets. It hangs flat which is great. The picture below's pockets don't zip but the one I have does and I've found that feature to be very helpful because nothing falls out especially when moving  (no lost jewelry). I bought mine from Marshall's but here & here are similar  A scarf hanger is also a must have. These don't hang as flat as jewelry holders do but I've found its the perfect way to store scarves. You can get it here! (Both of these are under $10!)
These both are good to have for security reasons too, there could be a lot of people coming in and out of your room so it just limits the chances of your stuff "disappearing" if your valuables are stored away in your closet.

3. Get a Calendar - Planning out your time is essential for success in college and an easy way to help plan is getting a calendar (& using it!). I use an agenda but I think having a hanging agenda or calendar is a really cute idea! I love this DIY one, you buy the frame from Target then use scrapbooking paper to fill the frames. My roommate just made her version of this for our room so I'm excited to see if we'll use it!

4. Organize Your Desk- Having your work space be uncluttered will help you be a more productive worker and keep your desk looking nice. Office supplies are small so its nice to organize them in little boxes or with trays inside the drawer so that everything has its place and your drawer doesn't turn into a free for all. Also you're probably going to do more than study at your desk so eliminating clutter on your desk top will help your room as a whole look more clean. The drawers are a DIY from cereal boxes directions are here.

Rush Week: Outfits!

Hey Everyone! So for those of you who rush in the Fall it's either already here or coming very soon! Rush for my school is in the Spring but it is never to early to start planning! I want to talk about outfits for Rush Week! Every school is a little different but most have about 4 to 7 days for Rush! I've compiled a couple youtube videos and other posts about what to wear during Rush. I would try to look at a couple videos or posts just to get a better idea and see what other people wore each day.

Outfit Examples:

Cute, Good Quality, & Inexpensive... What more do you want?!

To start off I must admit that I may be developing an online shopping problem. But I'm going to share my favorite place to blow all my money! Lulu's. Many of you may have heard of it or seen its adds before but it is the greatest thing. They have tops, bottoms, shoes, accessories, and my favorite, dresses. I love the clothes on Lulu's but the reasons why I love it so much are the prices and how easy it is to use.

While their prices do range from $20 to $200 most dresses are $30 to $50 and are very good quality. They have trendy shoes that are really good deals. Also their inventory is massive. There's so much to choose from.

It is so easy to navigate their site. I get very frustrated with similar store's website (Forever 21 for example) because its so poorly organized, the categories are too broad or their clothes don't fit into the categories. Lulu's categorizes a bunch of different ways, for example if you were looking for a green formal dress or a short color blocked dress, you can find it so easily rather than having to scroll through hundreds of dresses that aren't what you're looking for. There are reviews from others who bought the dress that I've found very helpful. Also, the measurements are clearly listed which is necessary for me since I'm so tall (some dresses fit me like shirts).

Use if for Game Day dresses!

Here are some of my fave dresses from Lulus for under $50!

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

It's been a very long time since I last posted & I would like to start off by apologizing for that! It's summer so I've been working constantly (trying to support my online shopping) & trying to spend as much time at the beach before I move 1,200 miles away from it!  But  I just wanted to take some time to talk about roommates.

  • Your roommate can be your best friend or an acquaintance, it's all up to you.
  • For those of you who are planning on rooming with your BFF, I warn you to be careful. Because not all best friends make the best roommates.
  • If you don't know your roommate, take the time to get to know her, ask questions, go to coffee, it will make the next year a lot more comfortable for you even if you don't plan on being super close
  • BE RESPECTFUL. I know every is not naturally clean (I'm sure not) but you must be respectful that it is not just your space anymore.
  • If  you're having a problem or something your roommate is doing bothers you, talk it out. It will accomplish so much more then being passive aggressive about it!

Those are all the bullets I can think of this morning! Good luck with all your rooming situations!

Online Shopping Obsession: Jane

Like many of you, I'm obsessed with Etsy, I could spend hours (& thousands) on there! But I've recently come across another online shopping website that basically combines all the good stuff off of Etsy & puts in to on sale! It's called Jane & it is amazing! It has everything from party ballons to clothes to home decor. But the deals are only available for a limited time so you have to check in often. You need to check it out & follow them on Pinterest!

Notebook & Book Organization

Since School us offically out for the summer its time to start planning for your dorm/apartment next year! You'll have lots of books & notebooks that can cause clutter and take up a lot of space in you room. Finding a organized (& cute) way to store all your books & notebooks will really help you save some space in your room. I love this idea of using file holders for each of your classes. They aren't that expensive and can be bought at Target or any office supply store. You can always get plan one and decorate them yourself with patterned paper and paint.

5 Words to Know

It's really embarassing to be talking to someone and only catch 50% of what they're saying because you have 0 clue what the words they're using mean! I've encountered this more times than I'd like to admit! I've picked a few words that could come up in conversation or would be pretty impressive to use in conversation.

  1. Inculcate - instill (an attitude, idea, or habit) by persistent instruction
  2. Usurp - take (a position of power or importance) illegally or by force.
  3. Gauche - lacking ease or grace; unsophisticated and socially awkward
  4. Diffident - modest or shy because of a lack of self-confidence
  5. Sanquine optimistic or positive, esp. in an apparently bad or difficult situation.

If you knew these words I am very impressed! Hopefully you find a way to use them in conversation and impress your professor or a even better, a cute english major!

Stock-Up On.....

There are hundreds of dorm room checklists out there (personal fave) but they can leave out some things that your going to want to stock up on. Things you don't even think about because your mom probably buys it or you may just think it appears out of the blue!

1. Underwear and Socks
This may seem a bit odd but think about for a second. Our mom probably does laundry once a week, in college when your doing your laundry (or waiting to bring it home so your mom can) it probably isn't getting done once a week. While you can get away with wearing your jeans a couple times before washing them I really hope you dont do that with underwear and socks.  Stock-up on them now before your doing that midnight load of laundry cause you've run out!

2. Extra Contacts & Solution
I'm really bad at this. My mom still orders my contacts. But before you leave for college make sure you've brought as many boxes of your contacts as you can! Its really easy to forget about these cause you don't change them every day! Also bring extra solution so you dont have to buy more in 2 weeks!

3. Medicine/First Aid Kit
You don't have to turn your room into the Red Cross but you'll be thankful you have some Advil when you get a head ache or have a bandaid for that paper cut! Also buy the store brand medicine its cheaper and is the exact same!

4. Phone Chargers
Buy an extra just in case! They fray and get lost easily.

5. Pens & Pencils
College is still school! It's better to buy a pack in the beginning of the year then replace them if you ru out!

Closet Organization

There are products that I have loved having in my closet and they maximize storage space! One is a sandal holder. They aren't expensive to buy and are perfect for dorms. Add it to your list like now cause it is so worth it!

The Sandal Rack I have is pictured below, it's $9.99 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Heres the link! I love it because it is really thin and fits in my closet nice without being tacky like other shoe holders. It hangs on a normal rack like regualr hanger. The clips have fit almost all of my sandals not just flip flops like in the picture.

DIY Key Holder

I've recently been doing DIY projects for my dorm room and I came across some Key Holder DIYs. I think thay are so cute and simple! I'm not going to include directions to these just cause they're pretty simple and if you need them all you have to do is google it. There materials can be bought at any craft store or Walmart. To save money you can get a frame from a thrift store and paint it! Here are some ideas that I liked for you to go off of if you like the idea as much as I do. I like different things about different designs and will probably incoorpate different aspects of a few of them!

I love the Chevron and the pin at the top for notes!

I'm in love with the mason jar! I love the shabby Chic styling of it too.  It'd be easy to get artifical flowers to match your room colors and they'd last all year.

I love this idea bacuse it's a really cute way of incoorpoating roommates and making the room look cohesive.

I love the idea of having the keys within the frame! I think it might be difficult to find a frame deep enough though!

Simple Spring

Lululemon Obsessed

Lululemon is a workout clothing brand specializing in yoga clothing, but these are the cutest workout clothes ever. I couldnt be more obsessed. They're cute without trying to hard and they are actually supportive and are high quality. They really think about what girls and women want to wear and how the clothes will work/fit. The price is the only problem! They are on the expensive side. BUT they have outlets in some areas. It is safe to say I have Lululemon Lust.
This is the cutest sports bra in the history of sports bras.
I am in love with the stripes!

Mad for Hats

Baseball Caps are becoming a college staple. Before you go to college make sure you get yourself a cute baseball cap. They're perfect for those days when your hair just isn't working and can look really cute with a pony tail tucked in the back! You'll wear it from spring to fall and look perfectly casual the whole time! Here are a few of my picks for the perfect baseball cap:

5 Things That Could Save Your Life

College Campus are usually very safe and universities try really hard to keep it that way but sometimes things can get a little sketchy. There are few things you can do to make sure you are able to protect yourself if you are in a situation where you must!

1. Be Smart
On all college campuses there are certain places where you shouldn't go to past midnight, be aware of this. Don't be out alone or with just another girl, take a guy or a bigger group. Have a general idea of where the emergency push buttons are.

2. Know the Campus Police & other service #
Have these numbers programed into your phone so that you can call if you need to. Also be aware of what safety programs your school offers, some offer rides home after a certain times. Take advantage of these if you need to.

3. Take a Self Dense Class
These usually get a bad rep but they're actually really informative and can be really fun. So grab a couple friends sign up for one. Some schools offer free ones in the beginning of the year.At mine I learned that Biting and Pinching can be very effective.

4. Key Knife
This little tool is a really clever way to protect yourself. It is a small knife disguised as a key. They aren't expensive and it goes right on your key chain. You can buy one here.

5. Pepper Spray
A simple thing that every college girl should own. My Dad got me a pink one for valentines day (feelin' the love, Dad). It fits on a key chain or in your purse, play it safe and get one. Remember you can't take it on a plane!

Perfect College Planner (and they're not expensive!)

Like most girls, I'd be lost without my planner, I shutter even imagining the chaos that my life would fall in to. But planners (especially cute ones) can be really pricey. That's why I was so excited with I found the cutest customizable planners on Etsy for an amazing price! You can find them here and I strongly recommend them!

Drawer Liners

College furniture can not only look dingy but also smell like its been used by hundreds of girls. Most colleges do a pretty good job of cleaning them up but extra touches never hurt. Before recently I thought of drawer liners as being something for grand mothers but they are actually really useful. They make the inside of your drawer look nicer while making your clothes smell really good. They can come in really cute and modern patterns, such as Hammocks & High Tea's collections (a little pricey but worth it!) or if those are a little out of your budget you can always make them yourself (directions here)

When it comes to sizing they can be a  little tricky  because these pullovers can be worn so many different ways. Here's a fit guide to show you how the different sizes fit so that you can pick the best size for you!
